An OHV title transfer refers to the legal change of ownership for off-highway vehicles like dirt bikes, ATVs, and dune buggies. The process includes titling, registration, and obtaining the proper stickers for off-road use in California.
When Do You Need an OHV Title Transfer?
- You bought or sold an off-highway vehicle (OHV)
- You’re registering an OHV for the first time in California
- You’re updating the name on the title
- You need to transfer a title from out of state
What You’ll Need to Transfer an OHV Title
From the Seller:
- Signed Certificate of Title (pink slip)
- Bill of Sale (recommended, especially for off-road units)
- Odometer disclosure if applicable (rare for OHVs)
From the Buyer:
- Valid California ID
- Proof of ownership or Bill of Sale
- Registration card (if available)
- Payment for title transfer and tax
Additional Forms (if applicable):
• REG 227 – Application for Duplicate Title (if title is lost) • REG 256 – Statement of Facts (for family transfers or tax exemptions) • REG 343 – Application for Title or Registration (required for most OHVs)
